About the Author
Robbin Maxwell lives in Christiansburg, Virginia, with her husband and her beloved Yorkie, Izzy. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has spent many years caring for others, especially in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Today, she brings that same care and understanding into her writing.
Robbin was inspired to write this children’s book by her own dog, Izzy. At one time, Izzy was very shy. She was afraid of car rides, people, and other dogs. But everything began to change when she started attending doggie daycare.
Each morning, Robbin would take Izzy to meet her doggie teacher in a small parking lot. Other dog owners would gather there too, creating a warm and friendly space. The dogs greeted each other with excitement, wagging tails, and playful energy.
Over time, Robbin saw a big change in Izzy. She became more social, more playful, and more confident. Watching this growth was powerful and emotional. These real-life moments became the heart of Barksville.
The Inspiration Behind the Story
The idea for this children’s book came from both love and loss. After Robbin’s mother passed away, Izzy became sad and struggled with being alone. Doggie daycare became a place of healing, not just for Izzy, but for Robbin as well.
Seeing Izzy come out of her shell and connect with others helped shape the story. Barksville became a world where every character matters, and every small step forward is worth celebrating.
Robbin created this children’s book to help young readers feel seen and supported. She wants children to know they can build friendships, try new things, and grow into confident individuals.
Message to Readers
At its core, this children’s book carries a simple but powerful message: everyone grows in their own way. With support, kindness, and a little courage, great things can happen.
Robbin believes that every child, like every dog, has a unique personality. With the right environment, they can find their voice, build friendships, and feel proud of who they are.
